About Us

At the Morgan Duke Conservation Society, we have conservation volunteers led by James Sullivan, the Volunteer Steward who has been with us since 2013. They work to protect the ecosystem, wildlife habitat, and Hudson River waterways from pollution caused by garbage left around the trails, campsites, waterways, and the sandy beach island at Darling Ford. Our Conservation Volunteers are dedicated to this cause throughout the year, inspecting the area to ensure no litter is left behind. They collect and weigh garbage, record the types of litter found, and use this data to track our progress in removing litter each year. In addition to cleaning up, our volunteers also assist in planting trees to prevent damage to vegetation caused by people venturing off the trails. This vegetation plays a crucial role in safeguarding the river waterways from erosion.

Morgan Duke Conservation Society conduct conservation work under the supervision of the DEC through a Volunteer Stewardship AgreementĀ
